In the IDUNN project, we have developed various tools to address the cybersecurity challenges faced by modern industries. In this newsletter, we are excited to introduce FRIGG: The New Mutation Step in our cybersecurity framework.
What is FRIGG?
FRIGG represents the new Mutation step in the Cybersecurity framework cyclic process. The technologies will supervise that the used defense methods are producing the expected results. This involves:
- Defining metrics that describe the performance of the deployed tools.
- Analyzing those metrics over time.
- Making the necessary adjustments to the deployed tools.
The Mutation function outlines appropriate policies towards the mutation of the systems, ensuring safe recovery of capabilities and services impaired by a cybersecurity event.
Work Carried Out for FRIGG
SIMULATOR FOR INCIDENTS
We developed a comprehensive module for running simulations using generative algorithm models. This task focused on creating machine-learning models capable of producing synthetic datasets resembling empirical data. Models such as Hidden Markov Models, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) were trained to generate samples for simulating and visualizing cyber-attacks. The synthetic data is stored securely in the IDA research data storage service.
DEFINE THE KPIs AND KRIs
We developed a catalogue of cybersecurity risks based on Indicators of Interest (IoI) and Indicators of Compromise (IoC). This task created a cloud-based environment for collecting and visualizing KPIs, KRIs, and Key Fairness Indicators (KFIs). The deliverable D6.4 provided a report focusing on KFIs relevant to ML models in Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), alongside a prototype tool integrating ML models with Explainable AI (XAI) frameworks.
IMPLEMENTATION OF DYNAMIC VISUALIZATION DASHBOARD
We focused on developing interactive visualization widgets and incorporating automation of rules imposed by ODIN. Continued technical advancements were made for the final dashboards, integrating explainability features via the THOR XAI interface. The final deliverable included comprehensive visualization within the FRIGG tool, integrating with AMORA, HEIMDAL, and ODIN.
Modules of FRIGG
- MUTATION LOGIC
- Security Orchestration: Connects and integrates different alert sources (e.g., SIEM, security endpoints) via APIs, consolidating security information to initiate analysis and response.
- ADVERSARIAL INTELLIGENCE AND MACHINE LEARNING MODELS
- Security Automation: Ingests and analyzes data consolidated by the security orchestration module, creating automated actions to replace manual processes performed by security analysts.
- INTERACTIVE VISUALIZATION WIDGETS
- Security Response: Plans, manages, and reports actions when a threat is detected, including automated remediation and email notifications.
IDUNN aims to validate a technological security framework composed of tools and microservices to enable automatic and dynamic cybersecurity operations.
